9 o’clock Nasty – Heavy (2025)
Continuing to challenge conventions with each single, 9 o’clock Nasty is intoxicating and indefinable. The trio can swing from hip-hop and disco to punk and metal – each hitting you between the eyes, twirling you about with head-whipping zeal, and leaving you lost in a kaleidoscopic crash of music. Drawing together the musical stylings of Pete Brock (vocals and guitar), Ted Pepper (bass and vocals), and Sydd Spudd (drums), the Leicester-based group have stomped across the UK underground scene, stamping their name with fervour. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Heavy’.
The sixth song from the anticipated LP Chaos – set for release in March 2026 – ‘Heavy’ retains the starkness of ‘Sonic’, but kicks with an underlying frenzy in the layering of guitars, drums, bass and synths. Simplistic in one way, with each instrument sauntering along in a pulsating, throbbing, anchoring beat; however, there is a toe-tapping drive that keeps the silvery thread of sound floating along with shimmering resolve.
Melodically, 9 o’clock Nasty offers a heavy thud with each song keeping you captivated from the outset. In ‘Heavy’, the single retains that skin-tingling swirl of your heart, but it is the theme that stands out as clarity in a murky mire. 9 o’clock Nasty explains:
“When the pendulum swings. When Crowland shatters and falls. When the end comes. All the money won’t decide… You see the crowd, it could get Nasty any minute. People are tired. People are angry. Everyone is talking. Things are getting labelled. Intention and tension… Dance can be part of the revolution. Kissing can be an act of rebellion. We all see the world through our own coloured lenses. Finding meaning.”
In addition to the single, 9 o’clock Nasty released an official music video for ‘Heavy’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
