Track of the Day: Wattmore – Romantic Side (2025)
Romance, love, the warm fuzzies of new relationships – all perfectly captured in those romance films with swoon-worthy actors and an underlying current of “oh, that’s so sweet”; sadly, this is just a load of malarky. Bridget Jones walking into the sunset with Mark Darcy, or Scarlett O’Hara clinging to the arm of Rhett Butler; it’s heart-warming but not always keeping to the romantic script… okay, maybe Bridget Jones isn’t that far-fetched. Capturing the core of old-school romance with all the alcohol-soaked bad ideas to follow, Australian duo release their latest single, ‘Romantic Side’.
“…a raw, genre-blending ode to love before screens, swipes, and perfectly filtered lives. Love didn’t start on screens; it started with courage, chemistry and bad ideas… This isn’t polished pop-country. This is two brothers, a busted-up heart, and a wingman called bourbon.” – Wattmore on ‘Romantic Side’
Combining the raw brashness of punk with swooping Americana-filled sassiness, and a lick of classic rock singing the sides, Wattmore made their mark with the debut single ‘Circus Life’. Turning international heads, the duo quickly earned a loyal following with confident performances, hard-hitting sounds, and a style to win your heart while sneakily pinching your cheek.
Leaning further toward an old-school country tune with an Americana edge, Wattmore’s ‘Romantic Side’ is perfect for both festivals and the hoedown at the local bar with moonshine on tap. Produced by Lindsay Warrington and joined by songwriter Allan Caswell, brothers Aiden and Kai Boak (also known as Wattmore) combine pounding drums, soaring guitars, and a sassy fiddle travelling along the tune.
For me, Wattmore already had a stand-out track with the debut ‘Circus Life’, and they have upped the ante with this sophomore single. The lead single from Wattmore’s upcoming project, ‘Romantic Side’, has a way of holding your attention without too much difficulty. If these tracks are anything to go by, I can’t wait to hear more from this kaleidoscopic, inspiring, “get your cowboy boots on and dance about the bar” duo.
