Haus of Sound – Mirage (2025)
Making their start as Seattle’s top 2000s tribute acts – Y2K! and Poker Face – the US-based Haus of Sound flips the switch, bringing audiences originality, individuality, and authenticity as an eclectic act. Holding strongly to their 2000s roots, Haus of Sound whispers nostalgia, but there is a contemporary kick to their concoction of electronic rock, theatrical punk, and alternative rock music. This is our introduction to the group, but they started turning heads with their previous singles ‘Anxiety’ and ‘Pain In My Eyes’. Join us as we delve into their third original single, ‘Mirage’.
The third song in their discography, and the latest track from their upcoming debut album Campfire Stories, ‘Mirage’ leans toward a heavier rush of hard rock with nu-metal allure. Unlike the ska-tinged ‘Anxiety’ and pop-punk-infused ‘Pain In My Eyes’, ‘Mirage’ is the grittier, grungier side to Haus of Sound’s personality. Self-produced, the combination of soaring guitars, crashing drums, heavy bass, and slicks of synths unite in harmonic union; however, each instrument brings its individuality to the intoxicating swirl of music.
Holding to their passion for 2000s music – “when rock stars danced and pop stars screamed” – ‘Mirage’ boasts comparisons to Linkin Park and Evanescence, blending the ferocity of each in a dark melody. The interplay between Dex Morgenstern’s spoken word and Gabrielle Burton’s swooping vocals links those melodic intonations with edgy kicks punching through the track. I won’t exactly say there’s a direct comparison to Amy Lee and Mike Shinoda, but the weaving of those styles sees ‘Mirage’ as oscillating from dark to light and brash to mellifluous.
Melodically, ‘Mirage’ is a feisty song brimming with abrupt rebelliousness and smooth mystery; however, it is the lyricism that brings greater depth. Exploring themes of identity, disillusionment, and inner conflict, Haus of Sound uses desert mirages as metaphors of self-deceit, regret and ambition.
In addition to the single, Haus of Sound released a lyric video for ‘Mirage’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Please note, this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
