Frank Joshua – Melanie Klein (2025)
Known for his innovative, eclectic music, Frank Joshua traipses through the realms of folk, indie, pop, rock, and even some classical leanings, creating a sound that is unique, insatiable and entirely his own. Hailing from the UK, his music resonates with international audiences melodically and thematically, so you find yourself in that space where nothing but music makes sense, while still holding to profound, weighty messages in the poetic lyricism. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Melanie Klein’.
Following the well-received singles ‘These Words’ and ‘Fertile Mind’, Joshua steps from indie-folk and country sounds to something… well, more obscure, leaning toward the realm of pop with a folksy tone peeping from the background. Joined by long-time collaborator and producer Tony White, ‘Melanie Klein’ retains the sophistication and elegance expected from White and Joshua; yet, as with previous material, the maturity of the track carries raw vulnerability and passion in a way that both hurts and heals.
For me, ‘Melanie Klein’ fits alongside songs like David Soul’s ‘Don’t Give Up On Us’ and Boz Scaggs’ ‘We’re All Alone’ – each capturing the essence of complex human emotion with soft, gentle, soothing tones. ‘Melanie Klein’ entwines the haunting of strings, the chill of percussion, and a rather interesting link between Anthony England’s piano arrangements imported into Tony White’s grand piano samples. Off-kilter, the unusual “jumping keys and tones” in the pop ballad add intricacy, keeping your emotions along the rollercoaster melody.
In its sound, ‘Melanie Klein’ is the song that seeps into your soul and makes you cry while still holding things together; the lyricism is as weighty. Joshua explains:
“’Melanie Klein’ is a quirky, bittersweet indie ballad about the slow breakdown of modern relationships, told through the wry, everyday details and the quiet things people say when love starts to fade… the song reflects on communication, co-parenting, and the small misunderstandings that grow into bigger divides…”
In addition to the single, Frank Joshua released an official music video for ‘Melanie Klein’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
