Tsunamiz – Slide (2025)

If Gorillaz had a kid with Depeche Mode and it was raised by the Pet Shop Boys, the chances are that kid would be Tsunamiz. The solo project of Portuguese musician Bruno Sobral, Tsunamiz celebrates electronic pop, psychedelic rock, and old-school synth-pop in an alternative sonic wrapper. A bubble of kaleidoscopic wonder, Sobral caught our attention a couple of years ago with 2023’s ‘Party Anthem’, and his genre-diverse style turned us. Skip ahead to 2025, and he presents his new single, ‘Slide’. Join us as we delve into this latest addition to his discography.

Following the well-received singles ‘Love Is Never Enough’ and ‘Free and Young’, ‘Slide’ is the third track from Tsunamiz’s upcoming album Love Is Never Enough (set for release on December 5th, 2025). Self-penned, composed, recorded and produced, ‘Slide’ echoes Tame Impala, but with the retro vibes of vintage synth-pop carrying the track. Driven by the shimmering textures of the synths, there is a fluttering light-heartedness found in the twinkling melody. Interestingly, just as the song has an airy vibrance, guitars soar in the background, adding a sense of grittiness to ‘Slide’.

Walking the line between indie-rock and synth-pop, ‘Slide’ holds the raw passion of each genre in its fist, so the fairies are fluttering about the hazy sonic path, but the imps are peeping from the corners, ready for a bit of rambunctious mischief. It’s bright and tranquil, yet something darker, deeper and a little more disobedient slices through the track.

Melodically, ‘Slide’ is an intriguing journey; however, it is the overall theme aligning with the sound that makes it weighty. Exploring the complexities of an “emotional…cutting ties with narcissistic influences and letting go of relationships that drain one’s soul…”, ‘Slide’ delicately unpicks intricate relationships with a charming tune. I wouldn’t call the track sincere, but there is a serenity floating in it that calms your heart and turns your head.
