Matt DeAngelis – I’m Just The Keyboard Player’ (2025)
With the goal of spreading an optimistic perception of life in a world riddled with angst, anxiety, and negativity, singer-songwriter Matt DeAngelis celebrates the joy, the tragedy, and everything in between with his moving melodies. Hailing from Southern New Jersey, USA, DeAngelis has been honing his musical talent since the age of 7, when he began writing songs and playing the piano. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘I’m Just The Keyboard Player’.
Following the well-received ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ and ‘For Better’, DeAngelis tips his hat at Billy Joel and Elton John with ‘I’m Just The Keyboard Player’. Joined by musicians Bill Kennedy (guitars), Eric Bishop (bass guitar), and Cole Herudek (drums and percussion), the single saunters through different realms of old-school rock, emerging with a strong 70s and 80s soft rock flavour. From the crashing drums to the soaring guitar, bold bass, and the piano-driven sounds, ‘I’m Just The Keyboard Player’ has a soft, soothing lilt to the melody; however, simultaneously, there is vulnerability nipping in the track.
Produced by Tom Conran and John DeAngelis, this single showcases sophistication and elegance with its mature arrangement. It’s a perfect concoction of rhythmic rock, but there is an intimate charm to the track, offering something more personal within the sophisticated bubble. Unpicking the complexities of our roles in life, ‘I’m Just The Keyboard Player’ is a melodic expression of Aristotle’s “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”; it reflects on embracing your role and gaining a sense of contentment. DeAngelis explains:
“This song essentially tells my story when I first started playing with bands. Universally, it’s about the realisation of our roles in life, be it a behind-the-scenes type of role or the role of a leader, and how each works for the greater good. When we “see the light” and embrace our role, we achieve contentment and productivity like we never did before…”
