MICAH – X’S (2025)

Since she last graced our virtual pages in 2024, singer-songwriter MICAH has turned even more heads internationally with rave reviews, radio airtime, millions of streams on Spotify, and confident performances from festivals (DL Summer Fest and LoveStock Festival) to a sold-out show at Whelan’s in Dublin. Today, the Irish songstress draws us in with her most recent single, ‘X’S’.

Produced by Sam Stevenson, ‘X’S’ is a kaleidoscopic combination of bold beats and shimmering synths. From the outset, you can feel the strength in ‘X’S’, but it is about mid-way that the push comes with a blast of synths seemingly kicking you in the stomach – in a good way. Interestingly, just as the build-up of synths surges forth, it quickly finds height, then abruptly halts; then the drop with a sneaky low-key synth emerging. From there on, it meanders through a mire of foggy sounds, harnessing the confusion of a love gone sour, but still wanting to carry on the friendship. An immersive rollercoaster ride, those waves of synths carry your emotions from tragic vulnerability and despair to hopeful albeit delusional optimism.

A strong contemporary electronic pop track, ‘X’S’ attracts modern-day audiences, yet MICAH’s universal, timeless themes transcend ages and eras, appealing to all generations. Melodically, ‘X’S’ is a rollercoaster tune anthem with the overall sound of its kicks and beats capturing the rawness of the protagonist’s vulnerabilities, yearning, and despair.

The first single off her debut album – set for release in 2026 – ‘X’S’ boldly takes the fore through the realms of pop music. Brimming with brutal honesty, raw emotion, and sensitivity, MICAH once again delights in a wave of sincerity, sentimentality, and intimate connection. I highly recommend her to anyone and everyone.
