Track of the Day: Zegovia – Prefab (2025)
Leading the way as one of this generation’s most exciting new rock bands, Zegovia delivers powerful performances packed with evocative melodies and just that extra oomph. Born of a childhood iPod Shuffle that developed into a “full-blown musical existential crisis”, being raised on rock music when rock music is supposed to have filtered away, Zegovia knew different – rock is not dead! Harkening to the heaviness of alternative rock, the punch of punk, and even a slip of country inspiration from yesteryear, the US-based foursome is not merely appealing to a particular audience; instead, they stretch their pounding drums and soaring guitars far and wide, transcending distance, time and eras.
Following the well-received album Observe, Seth Mireles (guitar and vocals), Quincy Cotton (guitar and vocals), Alex Larson (bass and vocals), and Matt Mireles (drums) weave a brand of alternative rock in the single ‘Prefab’. Produced by Seth Mireles, ‘Prefab’ is not a song merely to be heard, but rather felt. Dragging us back to the 1970s world of classic rock, you can imagine yourself twirling about, punching your fist and singing along at a festival, intoxicated by soaring guitars, a pounding drum, and a bold bass wound about the psychedelic music. Think of the images of Woodstock, and you might have an idea of the evocative impact Zegovia has with ‘Prefab’.
Bringing us the power of a live set through our speakers – put on max volume, of course – ‘Prefab’ finds the heart of humanity in a punch-to-the-gut symphony. Interestingly, while the melody itself is captivating, it is the lyricism that elegantly entwines the single’s theme. Not necessarily a profound message, but more a wave of finding the joy in a swirl of chaos. The band explain:
“Honest, the lyrics don’t make much sense, and that’s the point. ‘Prefab’ is about surrendering to the chaos, finding joy in disorder, and letting go of the need to label everything. It’s the sound of late summer with no rules and no roadmap.”
Along with the single, why not treat yourself to a live performance of ‘Prefab’? Performed in July 2025, Zegovia plays ‘Prefab’ at the What’s It Music Fest at Saint Arnold’s Brewery. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
