Since we discovered Cali Tucker last year with ‘Country Couture’, our team has kept an eye and ear out for more of her intriguing music, featuring her single, ‘Last Name’, a few months ago. Today, however, we turn from Cali and delve deeper into the Tucker music royalty with her “momma”, LaCosta Tucker. Quickly rising to fame in the 1970s, LaCosta Tucker toured with names like Johnny Cash and Bob Hope, while featuring on beloved TV shows like Pop Goes The Country, Dolly, and Nashville Now. Skip ahead some years, signing with Capitol Records and Elektra Records, working with industry professionals like Norro Wilson and James Stroud, placing on the country charts, earning nominations at the Academy of Country Music, and raising a family to boot, Tucker returns with her new single, ‘Woman Behind The Wheel’.
There is a specific quote from the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding that always brings a smile to my face. With sagacious grace, the mother says: “The man may be the head of the family, but the woman is the neck…” – this perfectly backs the theme behind Tucker’s ‘Woman Behind The Wheel’. A tribute to the vital role women play in keeping that family machine running smoothly, Tucker explains: “Women always step up to the plate… their strength and determination are what hold families together.” It’s an ageless concept resonating with the “traditional 1930s wife” to “strong, independent queens of 2025”.
