anamoe drive – hurry up & wait (2025)

With his more rambunctious side making music as the psych-pop band THUMPER, singer-songwriter Oisín Leahy embraces his softer, more vulnerable side as anamoe drive. Following the single, ‘The Rip’, released by THUMPER and anamoe drive, one can hear the innovation, diversity and versatility of Leahy; however, it’s not only ‘The Rip’ that gives us a kick of his originality. No, not just ‘The Rip’, but the evocative discography as anamoe drive offering fragility within melodic soothing to melt your heart, stir your soul, and connect with relatable intimacy. The latest addition to anamoe drive’s single is ‘hurry up & wait’.

Hurry up and wait seems a contradiction in terms. Why should we speed up only to settle down and await the future? In ‘hurry up & wait’, Leahy flips the verse and instead of rushing to wait, he explores the feeling of motion in its present as an escape from monotony and stillness. Leahy explains:

“I had attended an online songwriting workshop hosted by Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief, and for one of the classes, I was tasked to write a song in reaction to the photo ‘Skyscape’ by Genesis Baez. The image depicts someone washing a piece of cloth in water, with the light reflecting off the ripples. It felt calm and at peace with the present moment. The song conversely addresses the feeling of perpetual movement as a means to escape the vulnerability of stillness.”

In its own way, ‘hurry up & wait’ is a soothing touch of tranquillity in an uncertain, confusing world; simultaneously, it enhances one’s sense of vulnerability, stealing your breath as you sit and really ponder reality. A barebones combination of silvery vocals and steady guitar, anamoe drive proves the power of raw simplicity to hit you between the eyes with soft but raging gentleness.

In addition to the single, anamoe drive released an official music video for ‘hurry up & wait’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
