Matreya – Be Love (2025)
Beginning his musical journey, or at least beginning to turn heads, Matreya was introduced to audiences as Mason Noise on The X Factor UK in 2015. One of the more talked-about participants on the show, he quickly earned a reputation for confident, powerful performances. Mason Noise stepped away from the limelight, seeking spiritual comfort and understanding – a world away from the glitz and glam of the commercial music industry. Now, as a trained Reiki practitioner, the UK-based singer-songwriter embraced his burning passion for music as Matreya, spreading messages of peace, reflection and meditation to listeners.
Following his evocative singles, ‘I Saw The Light’ and ‘Eagles’, Matreya unpicks the core of humanity with delicate reflection and moving music – a movement continued with the single, ‘Be Love’. ‘Eagles’ began the discussion of embracing transformation, finding strength in life’s challenges; ‘I Saw The Light’ was a birth from feelings of being “…completely trapped by existence…” and a shining light to trust yourself. In ‘Be Love’, Matreya really sits down with us to revel in that principle of bringing life to yourself and your environment – the idea of love. Matreya explains:
“’Be Love’ is a song born from an ancient message, as old as the universe itself. The story of love has been told countless times, but here it ripples beyond romance into the very principle that brings life into being. I wanted this track to feel like a shamanic celebration – a carnival on a spaceship – an otherworldly reminder that the answer to our deepest questions has always been single: Be Love.”
Produced in collaboration with Iwan VenHetten and Reece Hayden, ‘Be Love’ tips its hat to Afrobeat sounds with R&B influences, but a strong world flavour brimming from the melody. Showcasing the beauty of organic arrangements, the bold Afrobeat pulse acts like an anchor within a swirl of percussion, keys, guitars and horns – the interspersed saxophone injecting a warm sassiness to ‘Be Love’. For me, the combination of eclectic elements bound into a mellifluous groove, with Matreya’s silky vocals dancing across, is a celebration of life beautifully unfolding with the joviality of being in the moment and the sincerity of looking to the future with hopeful reflection and understanding.
