Calling All Astronauts – Time To Party (2025)

In an interview with The Other Side Reviews, multi-instrumentalist Paul McCrudden shared, “Unlike a lot of bands, we aren’t trapped making the same song over and over, or at least variations of the same theme… we are able to cross barriers between genres, and we love to make tunes you can dance to.” Take a glance at Calling All Astronauts’ discography and I’m sure you’ll agree that they are diverse, boundary-breaking, genre-crossing individuals with each single bringing something new to the table. From punk to drum and bass, synth-pop to gothic rock, Calling All Astronauts have been turning heads since their formation in 2011. Today, we take a listen to their most recent single, ‘Time To Party’.

Taken off the well-received album, Noise Against Tyranny, ‘Time To Party’ is a brash mass of pulsating punk rock with pounding drums, a bold bass, and a scorching guitar whipped about into a kaleidoscopic blur of frenzied ferocity. Yet, while the punk rock madness exists, a slip of synths weaves in and out of the chaos; a shining breath twinkling with silvery glitters. One might call the song abrupt and an amped-up crush of insanity, but within the tempestuous punk style, there is an odd sense of harmony that sparks a fire under your feet while pulling you close with a sweet caress.

A mosh-pit ready feast of music, McCrudden dominates the room with his powerful guitars, while David Bury binds everything with programmed beats and a magical production wand. Interestingly, as much as ‘Time To Party’ kicks with raw vengeance, it is an empowering song of liberation. Calling All Astronauts explain:

“While it has the vibe of a party anthem… it’s not a straightforward celebration, its lyrics frame partying as a musical revolution, urging people to free their minds, take control, and break free from societal norms… It’s about being anything you want to be, not being trapped in a stereotype…”
