Miller Tracy – With John (2025)

Spending his youth as a competitive swimmer, Alabama-born Miller Tracy looked to the Olympics as his dream; then things kind of took a turn. After stepping away from swimming before college, Tracy found himself in “…a personal void – one that was unexpectedly filled by blues music”. The sounds of artists like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and more contemporary The White Stripes and The Black Keys ignited a musical flame in Tracy’s heart… and that was it. He picked up a guitar and eventually found himself in Nashville. Spending hours discussing records with a college friend, the idea of him singing sparked another flame, and everything changed. In 2022, he released the singles ‘Sunny Sky Blue Day’ and ‘Under The Hand’. Today, three years since his debut, we are presented with the single, ‘With John’.

Following the singles ‘Creature Comfort’ and ‘Love Is Adamant’, Miller Tracy releases his original song, ‘With John’. A taster of his upcoming debut album of the same name, this title track showcases another side to Tracy’s multi-faceted personality. From the indie-rock blaze of ‘Creature Comfort’ to a blues-drenched ‘Love Is Adamant’, ‘With John’ takes a leaning toward the rock-inspired rush of Wings, but with a glint of folk glistening across the track. Produced with Parker McAnnally, Tracy’s delicate finger-pick leads a thumping, crashing brand of rock drums and bold bass, bringing James Taylor to Wings.

Melodically, the single has you sit up to classic rock while feeling vulnerable with the introspective folk lyricism. Miller Tracy explains:

“The verses had this eerie, enchanting quality to it, and I knew I wanted the lyrics to be cut from the same cloth – something strange and unusual, but it took some time for that to reveal itself. I was listening to ‘Cry Baby Cry’ off The White Album on day and John Lennon has this line that just jumped out at me: ‘At twelve o’clock a meeting round the talent for a séance in the dark’… the themes surrounding séance – communication with the dead or spirits or maybe even a part of yourself you presumed dead… – were the perfect colours to paint with…”
