Rooftop Screamers – Forsaken (2025)
Reflecting on the intricacies of reality – past, present, and the yet to come – Rooftop Screamers celebrate life in all its grit and glory. The solo project of the award-winning veteran musician Mike Collins, Rooftop Screamers is an enigmatic reach of sound to resonate with audiences and toss them into that bubble where only music makes sense. Evocative and emotional, Collins explored the momentary state of existence with ‘Blink Of An Eye’. Today, we take a look and listen at this most recent single, ‘Forsaken’. Join us, won’t you?
Following the well-received ‘Blink Of An Eye’ and ‘My Sanity’, Rooftop Screamers release the rock-inspired tune, ‘Forsaken’. Shifting from the lighter side of Britpop and indie-pop tones, ‘Forsaken’ leans further toward 90s alternative rock, but with a simultaneously indie-rock vibe running throughout the melody. Blending crashing drums with a bold bass and soaring guitars, listening to ‘Forsaken’ is like falling into a sonic whirlpool surrounded by head-whipping kaleidoscopic sounds. For me, the flood of music breathes life into nostalgic alternative rock tones; however, the lightness of Stephen McSwain’s vocals adds a contemporary edginess to transcend eras and genre styles.
Melodically, ‘Forsaken’ is a toe-tapping, soul-stirring tune fluttering in a harmonic symphony; however, the theme is more profound and adds additional weight. Reflecting on the past and present, ‘Forsaken’ is a poignant confession of being dominated in a difficult world. Yet, as much as it is oppressive, the track is also a call to strength, empowerment and resilience. Collins explains:
“’Forsaken’ dives deep into the dark realities of colonisation, invasion and exploitation – both past and present… this track captures the tension between dominance and loss, greed and guitar, power and humanity. This is modern rock with a cinematic edge – intense, haunting, and unapologetically real. Turn it up, feel it, and let it linger.”
In addition to the single, Rooftop Screamers released an official music video for ‘Forsaken’. You can view the video below and/or on the YouTube channel.
