Alwyn Morrison – Maybe In Another World (2025)
With a very musical upbringing, singer-songwriter Alwyn Morrison found a passion for music at a young age. In our interview with Morrison, he mentions having piano, guitar and flute lessons – although he never mastered any of them. A love of music was always evident, but it is songwriting that truly stokes the embers of that fiery flame. Join us as we dive into one of his more recent tracks, ‘Maybe In Another World’.
Taken from his well-received debut EP Heartsplit, the US-based musician shares ‘Maybe In Another World’ with audiences. In our interview, Morrison describes Heartsplit as a journey through love – “I didn’t want to put out an EP filled only with sad love songs, so I tried to capture all dimensions of love: from falling in love, to struggling in a relationship, to overcoming heartbreak, and to looking back at a relationship with perspective.” The track, ‘Maybe In Another World’, is one of reflection, asking that question: what if?
Co-written by Morrison and Michael Kooman, ‘Maybe In Another World’ acts like a diary entry delving into those potential moments and the possibility of relationships in that other world. Lyrics like: “Maybe in another time, maybe in another place/ Maybe in another stranger, I would see your face/ Maybe in another era, it would be sublime/ Maybe in another world, in another time” is an introspective dream of what could be – what if?
Lyrically, the track is moving and resonates with audiences who look back at the chance of something, the idea of someone, and the dream of being in love, but the melody is as intriguing. Produced by Michael Carey, with mixing by Alex Aldi and arrangement by August Eriksmoen, the tune is a smooth, toe-tapping and skin-tingling combination of bold drums, fluttering piano, interspersed strings and soaring guitars. For me, however, it is Morrison’s dancing vocals that make the song poignant with a powerful execution of a simultaneously vulnerable and confident tone.
