Rose White – Sazerac (2025)

A tool to understand yourself, your place in the world, and how everything connects, singer-songwriter Rose White uses music for self-discovery. The thing is, the more she composes, the greater she notices similarities between humans and how we really aren’t that different in most ways. An ex-ballroom dancer, White left Poland for the UK at age 20 “…with £300, 2 suitcases and 0 connections and one dream – to tell stories for a living”. With great zeal, lots of hard work, and a constant burning passion for music, White soon earned a reputation for personal, poetic lyricism and moving melodies. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Sazerac’.

Following her well-received single ‘Next of Kin’, ‘Sazerac’ retains the distinctiveness of her soul music sound, but breathes with far more sassiness and sensuality than ‘Next of Kin’. Produced by Ollie Clark, with mixing and mastering by Joshua Woolf, ‘Sazerac’ is an immersive experience setting you adrift on a dark sonic river. With its mature combination of soul-inspired drums, bold bass, soaring guitar and percussion peeping from the background, you travel through the kaleidoscopic ripples, but in the distance, you see stronger waves coming your way. Oddly enough, while tumultuousness seemed looming, the wave crashes before you hit and might rock the boat without tipping you overboard.

White’s vocals add a new dimension to the flood of sound. Her dulcet, obscure tone leans toward Paloma Faith with a hint of Joss Stone; however, the attitude is like Sade – cool, calm, but ever so dangerous. Lyrically, ‘Sazerac’ is as lethal as it is laidback. White explains:

“Sazerac is one of my favourite cocktails, and what alcohol does to us is it puts our instincts and common sense to sleep…. This song is about wanting someone so badly. Someone who you know is not good for you in the first place… but passion can turn off all your senses and make you oblivious to red flags… ‘Sazerac’ is about a toxic love that drives you mad, and that’s what makes it exciting. It’s dangerous… ‘Sazerac’ is about being lost in lust.”
