LittleFox – Sad Girl (2025)

With a passionate fire for music burning in her breast since childhood, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alison Jenkins has been recording and writing music for well over a decade. Hailing from Vancouver, she works as a composer, music director, session musician, vocalist and performer all in one. We spoke with Jenkins a couple of years ago to discuss her EP, Ghost In This House, and she describes LittleFox as “where I feel most comfortable”. Today, the Canadian artist returns to our ears and eyes with her new single, ‘Sad Girl’.

Following her 2024 single ‘Vesuvius’, Jenkins saunters into 2025 with ‘Sad Girl’. Produced by JUNO award-winning Steve Dawson, the single is a soulful concoction of exuberant keys, a pulsating drum, shimmering guitars, bold bass, twinkling percussion, sliding horns, and charismatic strings bringing up the rear with a flourish. While ‘Vesuvius’ leaned toward country and folk sounds, ‘Sad Girl’ showcases LittleFox’s versatility, blending elements of folk, soul, blues and indie-rock with a golden ribbon binding it in a toe-tapping track.

Eager to delve into the grittier areas of life, exposing the good and the bad with an elegant flick of the hands and dancing vocals, ‘Sad Girl’ divulges the complexity of, well, being upset. Alison Jenkins explains:

“I wrote ‘Sad Girl’ about a time when I was convinced that I was exquisitely and uniquely unhappy; love had left town, friendship was rocky, work was hard. It wasn’t until I was on the other side of it that I realised that there was nothing singular about what I’d experienced. But when you’re in the thick of it, you become convinced that no one else feels the way, and you’re truly winning at the losing game.”

In addition to the single, LittleFox released a music video for ‘Sad Girl’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
