Malice In Wonderland – Lucifer’s Town (Revisited) (2025)
MySpace – the original realm of social media(ish) where fans connected, curators discovered bands, and artists connected with the globe in the 2000s. One of those bands that hit the world with a viral effect is Malice In Wonderland, as they released their cult classic ‘Lucifer’s Town’. Now, after a decade of absence, the Norwegian gothic rock group hit back with full force in blazing glory. We first came across their 2025 single, ‘I’ve Chosen Darkness (Over You)’; today, they stomp their way into our (and everyone else’s) ears with a reimagined version of their iconic 2005 debut in ‘Lucifer’s Town (Revisited)’.
Returning with a modern edginess to their single, ‘Lucifer’s Town (Revisited)’ takes the original, twists it a little, and explodes with a new arrangement, new recording, and shaping for the group’s milestone 20th anniversary. Frontman Chris Wicked shares: “We wanted to honor what the song meant to us and to the fans, while giving it the energy, grit and production it always deserved. This isn’t only nostalgia – it’s resurrection.”
Louder and heavier than ever, Malice In Wonderland are not only cementing their cult status, but reaching out for new audiences to join the fold. Released via Raven Black Recordings, ‘Lucifer’s Town (Revisited)’ retains the raw authenticity of the original, yet it seems to have slowed down like a gothic rock veil descending and lessening the rambunctiousness of the debut.
Produced by Eskil Sæter and Marius Mathisen, with mixing by Terje Tjerveaag and mastering by Hugo Alvrstein, ‘Lucifer’s Town (Revisited) is a kaleidoscopic concoction poured from a crystal vial. Sæter’s bold bass winds along his scorching guitar with Mathisen’s crashing drums. Dancing within the melody, a shimmering synth adds to the glisten and gleam in the rush of sound. Add Chris Wicked’s rich vocals, with backing vocals by Hildegunn Pernille Mellingen, and Malice In Wonderland hold your hand as you feel the soul-stirring effect of that musical poison (in the best way possible).
