Andy Smith (ft Emily E. Finke) – Legends (2025)
From small pub gigs in Bristol to large music venues across the UK, veteran musician Andy Smith started turning heads with his music. During this period, he wasn’t just playing for cover bands, but ultimately began starting to write and released original material on his 2012 debut album, Rock ‘n’ Roll Goal. Leap ahead a decade or so, and Andy Smith has two well-received albums, numerous singles, and has recently won the International Male Singer Of The Year award at the International Singer-Songwriters Association. Today, we take a look and listen to the award-winning artist with his song, ‘Legends’.
Joined by multi-award-winning musician and entrepreneur Emily E. Finke, ‘Legends’ follows Smith’s album, The Journey Man. Co-produced by Andy Smith, Emily E. Fink, and Andy De Rosa, ‘Legends’ walks the line between vintage folk and alternative rock. Melodically, a steady drum pulses in the arrangement with wisps of keyboards flowing harmoniously. Yet, while the track can run in a soothing flow, the driving violin, slips of flute, and a brief interjection of rock-tinged guitar add a twist to the track. Soft, gentle and easy, but with a darker melancholy and skin-tingling sentimentality.
Nodding toward the Nick Cave murder ballad, ‘Where The Wild Roses Go’, with its eerie interaction between Kylie Minogue and Cave’s vocals, Smith and Finke converse in silvery but grounded tones. It’s not a creepy tragedy, but a soulful combination of heart, warmth, and tenderness.
This is not our introduction to Andy Smith, having enjoyed his compilation of songs on The Journey Man; however, it is our introduction to the intriguing Emily E. Finke. As singers, they shine in their respective genres with Finke’s silkiness and Smith’s roughness, but joined, the pair brings their unique flair to what is an interesting song. I hope we hear more collaboration between the two in the future.
