Julie Paschke – Cold In Your Town (2025)
“I figure you gotta spend your moments doing something so do something you enjoy…” – words from singer-songwriter Julie Paschke that so eloquently capture the idea of living for the moment, being happy then and there, and making a difference even if it’s just for you. Hailing from Australia, Paschke is a relatively new player in the poker game of industry sharks, but this doesn’t mean she’s just following trends. With each of her singles – all released in 2025 – Paschke brings a flair of indie with tinges of rock and a silvery light of folk meets folk-pop. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Cold In Your Town’.
Following her singles ‘Bookends’ and ‘Man As A Teacher’, Paschke continues to showcase her skill in blurring folk with rock sounds. An indie-folk track, ‘Cold In Your Town’ shifts from the heavier rock-tinged ‘Bookends’; yet, as much as there is a strong soothing folk-driven flow, indie-pop weightiness plucks at the melodic cords.
Self-recorded, composed and produced by Paschke at her home – then sent to Dan Duszynski for mixing and mastering – ‘Cold In Your Town’ is a threading of acoustic guitars, an anchoring drum, bold bass, and percussion. It soothes and charms with ease, taking you off on a kaleidoscopic sonic river where fairies flit about, a ripple trembles, and the breeze is a sweet scent of lily of the valley (or whichever scent you find fitting). It’s chilled-out, laidback and brings with sincere tranquillity; yet, there is an oddity in its lyricism as they fall across with eccentricity in Paschke’s silvery vocals. She explains:
“My songs are generally more streams of consciousness than planned out or written about anything in particular. As is often said by songwriters, the lyrics tend to make sense after the fact. They generally allude to delusions and troubled psyches, difficulties in connecting and the quagmire of human interactions.”
In addition to this single, Julie Paschke released an official music video. This video can be viewed below and/or on her YouTube channel.
