Moon Construction Kit – Chemicals (2025)

For Moon Construction Kit, musical genres are merely threads to be entwined to form a beautiful, kaleidoscopic sonic braid. Brooding and consuming, but with an odd fluttering airiness to his tunes, the Switzerland-based artist takes a twist of indie-pop, a flicker of synth-pop, a dash of alternative rock, and a tipple of power-pop to create another colourful cord in his new single ‘Chemicals’. Let’s take a look and listen, shall we?

The brainchild of producer and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Cornu, Moon Construction Kit takes another step into 2025 with ‘Chemicals’. Following the silvery indie-pop single ‘Long John Silver’, ‘Chemicals’ brings a slightly heavier rush of rock to the melody. With the new single, Moon Construction Kit’s cinematic synth-pop tone continues to peep from its underbelly; however, the crashing drums and bold guitars run along, adding a rugged roughness to the full-bodied track. Insert the clip of electronica at the end, and you have an obscure twinkle ending everything in the sonic package.

Interestingly, while ‘Chemicals’ can be a flood of music washing over you with an odd laidback effect, it is a sinister song with moodiness flecked by adrenaline-charged chaos. Lyrically and thematically, the single is about feeling raw emotion – then again, it’s actually about feeling too much in its soul-stirring weightiness, kissing you with a slight caress and full-fleshed fury. Moon Construction Kit explains:

“’Chemicals’ is the sound of feeling too much. Eventually, the only way to cope is to switch off. I wanted the track to mirror that fight between chaos and the desperate need for stillness.”

Not necessarily sincere or sentimental, but definitely raging with raw honesty and brutal insight, ‘Chemicals’ is a song that isn’t a one-off, and let’s carry on with the playlist. No, it is the shot of vodka on a crazy night out that you know you’ll regret in the morning, but it’s worth it.
