Baby Condor – Silver Stereo (2025)

Finding their passion for music at a young age, Dutch brothers Nolle and Beinte Groen capture the artistry of musicians like Paul Simon, James Taylor, Quincy Jones, and Paul McCartney in their moving melodies. Introduced to these artists during their childhood while listening to their father’s Luxman L-4 stereo, the influences of classic 60s and 70s tunes filtered into their ears and stoked that fire to explore, create and share music; hence, we have Baby Condor. The result of that zealous attitude, Baby Condor weaves lines of folk, rock, pop and country in their songs, making every song unique and an intriguing sonic experience. Join us as we delve into their most recent release, ‘Silver Stereo’.

Following the 2025 singles ‘Backcountry Towns’ and ‘Seventeen’, Baby Condor rounded off the year with ‘Silver Stereo’. Referring to that significant stereo that breathed music into the Groen brothers’ ears, this single fuses vintage tones with a contemporary lilt crossing those decades but focusing on the core concept of “…a time when music was more human than robot, more art than entertainment.”

Settling you into a comfortable boat on the glistening sonic river, the soaring guitar and steady drums are warm and rich; however, while retaining its warmth, the presence of a powerful horn section and cutting organs gives ‘Silver Stereo’ a cheeky edginess. Joined by Menno Nijen Es (Wurlitzer and Hammond), Isaac McCluskey (trombone), Nick Feenstra (alto sax) and Joel Botma (trumpet), ‘Silver Stereo’ is uplifting, confident and vibrant, slapping a smile on your face, making the dreariest day a beautiful adventure. If today were a Monday, ‘Silver Stereo’ would make it feel like a Saturday.

Self-penned, recorded and produced, ‘Silver Stereo’ is built on a DIY attitude with the lads pouring themselves into the melody. For me, the track reminds me greatly of 70s soul wiggling through an old-school jazz filter. In other words, a song that captures the silky sophistication of Quincy Jones with clips of George Benson, Al Jarreau and Lionel Richie peeping in the soundscape. The Groen brothers may be Millennials, but they have old souls that exude in their music. I cannot wait for more from this talented pair.
