Jessi Robertson – Shadow War: Singularity (2026)

With almost two decades in the music industry, US-based Jessi Robertson is known for her multi-instrumentalism, powerhouse vocals, and emotionally and melodically mature melodies. Describing her artistry as “stargazer pop with confessional fire and genre-bending mystique…”, she saunters through various styles with an enigmatic aura, inviting you to dance along in the musical journey. From her debut 2023 album, Who We Are, What We Have Done, to 2021’s Delayed Pursuit, and 2025’s well-received Dark Matter, Robertson celebrates life with raw truth and intimate honesty. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Shadow War: Singularity’.

Launching Robertson’s Dark Matter Singularity Series, ‘Shadow War: Singularity’ is the reimagined version of the track ‘Shadow War’ from the critically acclaimed album, Dark Matter. The album itself was created in the wake of her Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis as a “…solo excavation of discarded songs… tracks using the universe as a metaphor for otherness, exploring black holes, quantum entanglement, data loss, sleep paralysis, and the emotional physics of being misunderstood…” ‘Shadow War: Singularity’ stands as the metaphorically rich exploration of otherness and human conflict. Robertson explains:

“’Shadow War: Singularity’ explores how fear and division turn us into enemies within our own minds. Inspired by golem lore and Frankenstein, it examines the dehumanising effect of “othering” and calls us back to empathy and compassion… It reminds us to look for the warm, beating heart within us all.”

A collaboration with Aaron Berg (Mountainwalker), ‘Shadow War: Singularity’ adopts a softer, more soulful, gentler tone as compared to the original ‘Shadow War’. While one fell into the heavier side of indie-rock, this single taps on the door of contemporary pop with a folk-inspired attitude. Driven by an acoustic piano, Robertson showcases the raw beauty of organic music as compared to the bells and whistles of complex arrangements. Yet, despite the simplistic, barebones sentimentality, a flush of intricate complexity brims in the delicate vocals and all-consuming piano.

Sincere, moving and tender, ‘Shadow War: Singularity’ is a beautiful introduction to a talented musician. I am eager to hear more from Jessi Robertson and suggest you keep your eye on her as well.
