Ralph Beeby & The Elephant Collective – Devil On My Shoulder (2026)
Technically formed in 2017 as Ralph Beeby’s solo project, Ralph Beeby & The Elephant Collective swirls the diverse stylings of various musicians (the collective) to create something Beeby has described as “a darker shade of the blues”. While retaining the gritty underbelly of old-school blues-rock, a daub of contemporary blues-rock is flung across Beeby’s sonic masterpiece, giving respect to the vintage vibes without becoming “too bogged down in the past”. Following his single, ‘Long Road Home’, the UK-based band releases a high-speed rush of music with ‘Devil On My Shoulder’. Join us as we jump on this speeding train.
Unlike the brooding attitude and cinematic soundscape of ‘Long Road Home’, ‘Devil On My Shoulder’ ups the pace with, in Beeby’s words, “…a feral two-and-a-half-minute dash through the wildest gothic country-blues.” The combination of pounding drums, bold bass, slicked guitars, and steel pedal pumps the song full of urgency and frenzied chaos. In some odd way, the gritty vocals enhance the intensity of the melody while inserting an odd sense of haunting within the forceful tone.
Melodically, ‘Devil On My Shoulder’ is a mad dash of music, twirling you about in a frenzied madness; however, it is the alignment with the theme that adds weightiness. A song of empowerment, resilience and strength, ‘Devil On My Shoulder’ is a stamp of liberation and independence for the underdog. Beeby explains:
“… It’s a classic underdog tale of fighting for survival, for anyone who’s ever had those days when it feels like the whole world is out to get you and you might have to break a few rules to get through it.”
In addition to the single, Ralph Beeby & The Elephant Collective released an official lyric video for ‘Devil On My Shoulder’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
