A Chat with Jamie Dickinson (28.01.26)
Raised on a cocktail of jazz, opera, R&B and pop – actually most genres – Jamie Dickinson started life as a musician, performing at age five, and just carried on that way. Skip ahead several years, and his penchant for powerhouse melodies with a prowess for natural storytelling, the UK-based artist has released several singles and EPs to critical acclaim while turning heads internationally. We speak with Dickinson about his EP, Emergence, what music means to him, supergroups and more.
OSR: Cliché, but what drew you to music? What made you pursue a career in music?
Dickinson: Music, truth be told, has been a part of my life I started singing from a young age and fell in love with it, so it’s all I can really remember. 😄
OSR: What does music mean to you?
Dickinson: Music means everything to me. It gave me a way to express myself as I’ve never been able to before. It can also make people feel so many different emotions, which is the true power of it.
OSR: What can you tell us about your new EP, Emergence? Is there a particular backstory or theme?
Dickinson: The main theme lyrically is my stories of 2025, prior to this EP’s release. 2025 was a rollercoaster of a year, and I think taking from different genres (indie, experimental, etc.) and using them as sub-genres for electropop, you get a variety of music, which was the initial vision.
OSR: What do you hope people take from Emergence, and what does the EP mean to you? As an EP, what challenges did you face during the composition, recording and
production?
Dickinson: I hope that people mainly take from Emergence is that no matter what ups and downs you may face in your life you’ll always be stronger for them. In terms of the process, nothing really stood out as a hiccup necessarily. I think trying to get the storytelling elements through was the main focus and took the most time.
OSR: If you could change anything about Emergence, what would it be and why?
Dickinson: I dont know if I would change anything to be honest, I think that in the end Emergence replicated the vision I had, and hopefully it’s an EP that people can enjoy.
OSR: If you could create a supergroup with which you could perform, who would the
members be and why that person?
Dickinson: Oooo, I love this question!!! I would say: Ariana Grande (I mean, she has no reason, everyone knows she’s talented !!), Ed Sheeran (his songwriting and guitar playing are unreal) and Jax Jones (His shows are extravagant and his music production is out of this world!).
OSR: If you had to introduce your music to a new listener, which song would you
recommend and why?
Dickinson: I would say either ‘Thief In The Night’ or ‘Painted Love’, I think personally they’re my favourites, and anyone I speak to says these two as their favourites also.
OSR: What do you think makes you unique as a musician?
Dickinson: I’d like to think my eclectic style, as well as telling my personal stories, makes me unique as a musician.
OSR: What can we expect from you in the future?
Dickinson: I have a new single out in February as well as an EP scheduled later in the year. Hopefully, some live performances as well this year!!
OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?
Dickinson: Thank you to anyone who supports me, and thanks to Nicole and The Other Side Reviews for allowing me the opportunity to showcase me and my music. 😊
