Hex Poseur – The Alpha (2026)

Performing as Hex Poseur, Nottingham-based singer-songwriter Harri Bettsworth brings a rebellious, no-nonsense, bad-ass attitude to audiences bound in a rambunctious rush of grunge, garage-rock, metal and punk music. Established as a pioneering artist in the UK’s underground rock scene, Hex Poseur has released five EPs, a full-length album, and several singles since her inception in 2020. Joined by bassist Holly Osborne and drummer Jacob Wakeling, the trio has won hearts with high-voltage, energetic, confident performances, but don’t need to be at a live show to experience the head-spinning, breathtaking power of their music – you just need to turn the radio on and stream Hex Poseur’s music.

The first release since their 2024 EP, Sheriff Sessions, new single, ‘The Alpha’, marks a pivotal point in Hex Poseur’s musical journey, retaining her punk-inspired roots but with a darker, heavier brush of metal music. Recorded and produced at Snug Recording by Robin Newman and Richard Collins, ‘The Alpha’ is not only a song but a shove into a sonic whirlpool bubbling with haunting horror, eerie vulnerability, and the creepy skin-chilling feeling of imps hidden in the undergrowth, ready to pounce.

Wakeling’s crashing drums push you from pillar to post with a brash force, while Osborne’s bass slithers along, keeping the beat but still teetering on the tip of frenzy. Add Poseur’s scorching guitars soaring across the tune, and her vocals strutting in a gritty, rich, and rugged way; you have a song that scintillates, charms, and might leave you a little overwhelmed.

Melodically, ‘The Alpha’ is an intriguing song, but it is the lyricism that adds spice to the sound. Hex Poseur explains: “In the song, I take the role of the ‘alpha male’, and there’s a bit of comedy about that, as I’m obviously not actually male or alpha. And that’s really the point – the alpha male is a ridiculous concept, and demeaning to both men and women.”
