A Chat with Becky Raisman (13.02.26)
Celebrating life in all its tragedies and triumphs, singer-songwriter Becky Raisman radiates inspiring messages and empowering strength in her moving melodies. Resonating with listeners of all backgrounds, she shines bright leaving a lasting impact on all who experience her bold music. We speak with the US-based Raisman about her new EP, Earth Goddesses, what music means to her, and much more.
OSR: What does music mean to you?
Raisman: Music is a language, an art, it heals, bring people together. Go learn an instrument, take lessons, and jam with others.
OSR: You recently released your EP, Earth Goddesses. What can you tell us about the EP? Is there a particular theme or backstory?
Raisman: My former voice teacher from School of Rock wrote ‘Moonlight Goddesses’ and ‘Live It Up, Live It Loud’. I was thinking about Earth, goddesses and my former voice teacher. We were talking about goddesses, feminism, the Earth. I brought the lyrics to her, and we listened to instrumentals.
OSR: What do you hope people take from the EP, and how is it significant to you?
Raisman: To be a goddess, to live it up, to believe in yourself.
OSR: How would you describe the EP?
Raisman: It’s rock, pop, upbeat, ear candy, catchy melodies
OSR: If you could change anything about Earth Goddesses, what would it be and why?
Raisman: Maybe add a fourth song.
OSR: Which do you find more challenging: melody or lyrics?
Raisman: I love doing both. I would write lyrics, listen to instrumentals and come up with melodies. I made some beats on my Ableton Move so I could come up with melodies.
OSR: While you released Earth Goddesses last year, do you feel it is a good representation of who you are as a musician at the moment?
Raison: Yes, I think so. It brings variety.
OSR: If you could speak to your younger self, what would you say?
Raisman: Keep going, you can do it. You are awesome.
OSR: What can we expect from you in the future?
Raisman: I’ll be starting my 6th EP, Pride Fest. I’m so pumped, I have a Chappell Roan inspiration style song and a Devon Cole inspiration song as well.
OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?
Raisman: Thank you so much for listening. You are loved, believe in yourself, you are awesome.
