Dave Sullivan – The Last Time (2026)
Hitting our ears a couple of months ago – not literally, of course – singer-songwriter Dave Sullivan guided us through a sonic whirlpool with ‘Capture’. It was fun, intriguing, and we found ourselves singing along even though we didn’t know the words. Today, he saunters through the realm of 90s pop-rock, once again paving the way for an infectious walk. Come along, hold his hand, and let’s get into Sullivan’s new single, ‘The Last Time’.
In Sullivan’s rollercoaster style ride of rock music, ‘The Last Time’ is a hard-hitting combination of pulsating drums, a bold bass, soaring guitar, and a brief whisper of a piano. Produced with Cian Boylan, the track has a slip of Kings of Leon as we slide from side to another – a strong rise and fall of the bass, while the guitar swims along, with those drums kicking up and anchoring the background. For me, the most engaging element is Sullivan’s rich vocals. Sweet, captivating and confident, the line between ruggedness and honey-soaked silkiness is carefully executed in a charming rock-leaning voice.
Melodically, ‘The Last Time’ is an easy-on-the-ears, steady and clear track, veiled in a rock sheen; however, lyrically and thematically, the song delves into uneasiness, confusion and intricacies of human relationships. When speaking about ‘The Last Time’, Sullivan explains: “This song is about that moment when everything changes. When what started as something fun suddenly feels like it’s carrying weight. It’s about deciding whether you’re ready to step up.”
Sincere, sentimental and honest, this new track wrestles with the pressures of vulnerability versus the warmth of comfort. Just as I enjoyed ‘The Last Time’ and ‘Capture’, I am hopeful that Sullivan’s music will be as delightful in his next release.
In addition to the single, Dave Sullivan released an official music video for ‘The Last Time’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
