A Chat with Alchemize (16.08.25)
Finding that unique blend of RnB, alternative rock and metal, UK-based group Alchemize is most fascinating, soul-stirring, “that was awesome” tempest rushing across the plains. Establishing themselves as pioneers in the Manchester metal scene, Connor, Brandon, Adam, and George push boundaries with their unconventional style. We speak with Alchemize about their single ‘Fool For You’, gigs, advice and more.
OSR: We spoke to Alchemize last year with the release of ‘Weight of Gold’. What have you been up to since then?
Connor: Since then, we’ve been pushing ourselves musically and personally. We put out ‘Lodestar’, which was our 10th single, which was a huge milestone for us. We’ve also been gigging across the UK, supporting some amazing bands and building our live presence. It’s been about growing, finding our voice, and connecting with people who really resonate with what we’re doing.
OSR: Over the past year, you’ve released several singles from ‘Weight of Gold’ to the EP, Lodestar. Do you feel your upcoming single, ‘Fool For You’, is a good representation of Alchemize’s sound at the moment?
Connor: Yeah, definitely.’ Fool For You’ captures where we are right now. It’s got that R&B/pop-meets-metal edge we’ve been honing, but it’s also more refined and confident in its delivery. It feels like the natural next step from Lodestar.
OSR: Speaking about ‘Fool For You’, what can you tell us about the single from writing to recording? Is there a theme or backstory to it?
Connor: The track came together pretty organically. Lyrically, it’s about being pulled back into something you know is toxic, almost like you’re addicted to the chaos. Musically, we wanted that tension to shine through, smooth melodies colliding with heavier, more aggressive moments. Recording it was a buzz; we really pushed ourselves to blend those two worlds seamlessly.
OSR: What do you hope people take from ‘Fool For You’ and your music in general?
Connor: Honesty. We want people to feel that raw push-and-pull of emotions we’re putting into the music. If someone listens and thinks, “That’s exactly how I feel, but I couldn’t put it into words,” then we’ve done our job.
OSR: What do you find more challenging: writing lyrics or the melody?
Connor: Lyrics, without a doubt. Melody tends to flow naturally once we find the groove, but lyrics are about getting vulnerable and saying something real. That can be harder to nail because it has to come from a truthful place.
OSR: What advice do you have for upcoming musicians?
Connor: Don’t wait for permission, just start. Write, release, play shows, even if it feels messy at first. The more you put yourself out there, the more you grow. And don’t compare your journey to anyone else, just focus on your lane.
OSR: Gigs are transformative experiences, so what is your favourite performance to date and why that show?
Connor: Probably say playing the first ever Shredder festival in Sheffield! There was some great bands on the bill, and for us, being a relatively unknown/new band to a degree, the room was packed for us! It really gave us a proper buzz, would do it again in a heartbeat if I could! It’s one of those days/nights that reminds you why you do this.
OSR: If you had to introduce Alchemize to a new listener, which song would you recommend?
Connor: I’d say ‘Mixed Signals’. It’s got the blend of heavy and melodic that really defines us, and it gives a taste of both sides of what we do.
OSR: What can we expect from Alchemize for the rest of this year and beyond?
Connor: We’re focused on getting more music out, hitting more cities with live shows, and pushing ourselves further creatively. We’re also looking at new collaborations and ways to expand, so yeah, we’re constantly looking at how to evolve and grow!
OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?
Connor: Thanks for giving us your time and checking out what we’re about. If you’re into music that’s a little left-field but heartfelt, come along for the ride. This is just the start for us!
