A Chat with Anna Lynch (08.09.25)

Eager to explore the inner complexities of modern-day life, from mental health to female empowerment, singer-songwriter Anna Lynch is taking the UK by storm with her moving music. We speak with Lynch about her debut single, ‘Wake Up’, her favourite musicians, upcoming plans and more.

OSR: Did you always want to be a singer growing up?

Lynch: Maybe not initially, I kind of hadn’t realised it was an option, then around 17/18 I was hit with this sudden urge to become a singer in whatever way possible, it has shape-shifted over the years, but I am so rooted in my path now and I know there is no PLAN B. It is my purpose, and I am so lucky that I make a full-time living singing in venues/ weddings and bars whilst I focus on my own music.

OSR: What instruments do you play?

Lynch: My voice!! She is my only instrument, I used to say that hesitantly, but now I say it with my chest proudly, my voice is my tool, and I write too. I hear melodies; the second someone plays chords, melodies flow. I would say this has developed as I have gotten older.

OSR: You were a host at The Blues Kitchen, and now you are a performer there. A dream come true?

Lynch: Yes, how crazy. I really am so, so grateful for that job and where it has taken me. Blues was a pivotal changing point in the path of my life, and I truly don’t think ‘Wake Up’ or any of my other songs would exist without that chapter of my life. Being a performer for the last 3 years allowed me to hone my craft, gain confidence live, and just be a better musician.

OSR: Describe your style of music and what you like about it?

Lynch: My style is indie pop soul. I like it because it is me and it feels so true to myself, it really aligns with my inspirations, and it is my authentic expression. It has taken me years to find my ‘sound’, but I really feel for the first time I know what my sound is, which makes me so excited for all the songs that haven’t even been written yet.

OSR: Do you have favourite singers you look up to and why them?

Lynch: For the longest time and still to this day, Amy Winehouse has been my favourite. I look up to her more than any other artist. In my eyes, she was the greatest of all time; she was a truly magical person and wrote like no one else. She lived her music, and you can feel the depths of pain in her music; she wrote from the heart. She has been the person I have looked up to, and if I have a few months away from listening to her and then put Frank on, I am always completely and utterly mesmerised.

OSR: Are there any artists you would love to collaborate with and why them?

Lynch: I LOVE Olivia Dean and her writing team, producer, etc. I think they have an amazing formula and I would love to hear what I could make with them.

OSR: Performing solo or with a band? What do you prefer?

Lynch: Definitely with a band or guitarist. I do love a stripped-back gig. I recently played a show just myself and my producer, Rhys, on guitar, and I was so happy with how the songs translated; it feels a little more intimate playing them that way.

OSR: Tell me about your new single ‘Wake Up’. What’s it about?

Lynch: My new single ‘Wake Up’ is a summery, empowering song. This song was the first song I wrote with my producer, Rhys Jiang. I think we started her on a beautiful summer’s day in his shipping container in Pollard Yard, the chorus came to me as if a gift from the universe and the words just flowed. To me, this song is to empower whoever needs it. It is about waking up to yourself, that you can bloom and wither and still be beautiful and completely enough. I think as a woman, we can be so hard on ourselves, but this song is here to hold you in those moments and remind you that you are more than enough.

OSR: Regarding your upcoming EP. How is the process going and what can people expect?

Lynch: It is good! I actually am sat on a lot of music, probably 2 EPs’ worth, so I am still figuring out the way in which they will be released. There will be a few more singles and then probably an EP with a couple of extras on, but I plan on consistently releasing for the next couple of years, full speed ahead. The process has been so powerful for my growth and healing after a hard time. I have poured my heart and soul into this body of work. We are finishing off a lot of the songs now, and I just feel ready to complete them and get them out in the world, so I can get back to writing because that is my favourite part. I have a lot I want to create. They can expect heavy, hopeful, fun, the whole lot. I think there is a real range of feelings in these songs, so I hope the listener can take what they need.

OSR: What are you currently up to?

Lynch: Currently focusing on promoting ‘Wake Up’. She came out two weeks ago, and so I want to keep sharing her out into the world. Also focusing on my headline show at Band on the Wall on the 17th September. I just came away from a backing vocalist rehearsal with two incredible singers, and on Tuesday, I have my first full band rehearsal; we have a horn section, BVs, rhythm section- the full package. I couldn’t be more excited, so come down to see all my unreleased songs live, and of course, ‘Wake Up’. But yes, super busy focusing on this, and then as soon as this show is over, I will be focusing on single 2 release!!!
