A Chat with Asia Holiday (17.04.25)
Asia Holiday isn’t your typical artist – she’s a dynamic force of nature blending pop, RnB, and country into a sound that’s as bold and multifaceted as she is. With her new single ‘One In A Million’, Holiday invites listeners into her world – one shaped by vulnerability, resilience, and unapologetic self-expression. From her roots in musical theatre to her evolution as a singer-songwriter, she brings both emotional depth and vocal power to every note. In this exclusive interview, Holiday opens up about the inspiration behind her empowering anthem, her alter ego Miss Melanin Monroe, and how past experiences have helped shape the confident, fearless artist she is today.
OSR: Your new single ‘One In A Million’ blends pop, RnB, and country. Can you tell us about how those three genres came together in this track and why you decided to combine them?
Holiday: All three genres are representative of me and my upbringing. I wanted to make sure that was reflected as best I know how, as the world begins to learn more about me.
OSR: The song’s message is all about self-love and empowerment. Was there a personal experience or a specific moment in your life that inspired the lyrics?
Holiday: I went through a time when I wasn’t treated like I was one in a million. I think we all have at some point. I know how important it is to speak life over yourself and how powerful your words are. I wanted to manifest a new mindset for myself and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
OSR: Your vocal range is extraordinary. How do you approach your vocal technique, and what do you do to keep your voice in top shape for performances?
Holiday: Thank you! Salt water, daily vitamins, and vocal rest are my little secret weapons to put my best foot forward.
OSR: You’ve had quite the career, from musical theatre to acting and now music. What made you decide to focus on your music career at this stage of your journey?
Holiday: I’m at a stage in my life where I want to be as consistent as I can be at being the best performer I can be. I’m also at a point where I’ve relinquished control of what I thought my future would look like. I’m not just going with the flow of where life takes me and trying to be as great as possible at whatever I do.
OSR: How does the creation of your alter ego, Miss Melanin Monroe, play into your creative process? How does she influence the way you present yourself as an artist?
Holiday: Melanin Monroe was developed in a dramatic space as a child. The little girl who wasn’t confident and often times alone. The little girl who ran away to music and performing so she could feel like a bigger version of herself. One worth watching, one worth enjoying. Although I know I am all these things based on my heart and my inner character, the fictional character (or persona if you will) has been a great bridge to get me to love who I really am behind all the glitz and glamour.
OSR: You’ve been open about overcoming bullying in your youth. How have those experiences shaped the music you create today?
Holiday: I’m grateful I went through the bullying. It helped me to dive deeper into music. It seemed like whenever I performed, all the hate, all the hurt just stopped. I HAD to become the best artist possible because it was my therapy. It was my way to connect to those who did or are going through what I went through. Hopefully, my songs can be a form of therapy for them as well.
OSR: What was the most rewarding part of creating ‘One In A Million’? Was there a moment during production that made you feel particularly proud of the track?
Holiday: Honestly, ‘One In A Million’ is not an easy song to sing. As someone who is very passionate and meticulous about her craft, I was ecstatic to get the notes and musicality as perfect as possible. Secondarily, when the whole song was completely lyrically… I felt whole. There’s no better feeling than creating a song that speaks to you so loudly, you know it’s bound to echo onto others.
OSR: For your fans, what can they expect from you in terms of upcoming shows, fashion, and music beyond this single?
Holiday: I’m performing a lot more in LA right now, and in those shows, I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone with fashion. I don’t want to be afraid to make mistakes as I evolve, and I feel like I have the perfect fan base to allow me to be human just as they are. I’m excited for this new chapter. I’m about to expose a part of myself that I’m not sure everyone is ready for, but I’m ready, and hopefully my vulnerability will be enough.
OSR: The song has an anthem-like quality to it. Do you see ‘One In A Million’ as part of a larger vision or theme for your music moving forward?
Holiday: Thank you so much! I feel ‘One In A Million’ can be one of those songs that can uplift people for years. I’m interested to see where time decides to take the song.
OSR: What do you want listeners to feel when they hear ‘One In A Million’? What’s the message you hope they take away from the song?
Holiday: I want listeners to feel like they’re floating. I want them to feel untouchable, valuable, attractive, and abundant. I want them to be able to speak positively about themselves, just in case no one else gave them the reminder that day.
