A Chat with Maria Rosa La Kakiee (03.11.25)
Maria Rosa La Kakiee, an independent singer-songwriter, recently released her furious new track, ‘Trigger My Aria’. A hip-hop/pop anthem that transforms her inner strength and fortitude into a daring, unvarnished musical statement. Below, we discuss everything related to music with Maria Rosa La Kakiee.
OSR: How would you describe your sound to someone hearing your music for the first time?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: Real, raw, unique sound that truly is infectious. “My cadence is so contagious”. My sound is angelic, witty, and fun. Most of all inspiring.
OSR: What does being an independent artist in Boston’s music scene look like day-to-day?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: A struggle, hard balancing life, work, music, kids, bills, etc. I have to make the time to do what I love. As artists, we struggle to make ends meet to be heard and promoted. It is not easy, but we continue to strive and be the best versions of ourselves. And most importantly mage music makes art. I keep that momentum as an artist. Just do it.
OSR: And what role has independence played in your career as a recording artist?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: The role is not easy, but it is a blessing from God. You have to remember to believe in yourself, maintain composure and confidence. Invest in yourself and your craft.
OSR: What inspired ‘Trigger My Aria’, and what does the song mean to you personally?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: After a bullying incident, I went into the studio and freestyled it. It is a release from the bullying and disrespect. Instead of flipping out, I channeled the disrespect into a song. The outcome is the hip-hop anthem. I learned my lesson. Remember the lesson so you know when you are being tested. I reference my auntie Pat, she would always make me laugh about the bullies. She taught me best: kill them with kindness. We all make mistakes; the trick is to learn from them. Do not allow the bullies around you. We lost her back in Feb 2025, but I know she was with me in that booth when I recorded the song. I channeled her spirit and energy.
OSR: What was the most challenging part of creating ‘Trigger My Aria’?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: The only challenge was the time and the money. The song was born from pain. My innate reaction to music is empowering.
OSR: What’s one lyric from ‘Trigger My Aria’ that best represents your personal philosophy?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: My philosophy. Cut them off because I learned my lesson. Not everyone deserves to be in your presence. Protect it from those intentionally causing harm or do not have your best interest at heart. Surround yourself with love. The one lyric is the hook… “I made many, many mistakes, many, many, many mistakes, but cutting you off is not one of them”.
OSR: How do you handle the emotional intensity of turning personal pain into music?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: I talk to my life coach, Carlo Jean-Michel, who is one of my biggest inspirations and influences on my music. He inspires me every day and pushes me to be my best self. He is an artist and life coach, and a talented singer himself. He performed at my wedding and bridal shower, which resonated with me. He truly is an amazing life coach and human being. Keeps me sane and grounded. I also journal and pray. Write a song, go to the studio and light it up. The bullies trigger my aria. They fuel my fire and outcomes my desires.
OSR: Which artists or experiences have most influenced your sound and style?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: Easy, Selena Quintanilla. Anything for Selenas. I learned from her. Studied her songs and performances. What I relate most with is her innate ability to perform and sing. A natural talent, much like myself. Self-taught. She has inspired me since I was a child and still does. I recorded a tribute to pay homage to her, which will release soon. A cover song in her memory. Keeping her alive forever.
OSR: And who would you love to collaborate with in the future, and why?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: Eminem, because his music truly touches my soul. He is gifted and intelligent. What I admire most is his devotion to his daughters. He is an icon and inspiration to us all.
OSR: What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your new single?
Maria Rosa La Kakiee: Stand up to those bullies. Believe in yourself. Stay calm, choose sovereignty. Turn the pain into art.
