A Chat with SAPPHIRE (07.10.25)

SAPPHIRE’s new single ‘The Last Thing’ showcases her uncanny ability to turn everyday moments into soaring pop anthems. Balancing intimate confession with festival-ready energy, the young singer-songwriter continues to captivate listeners worldwide with her heartfelt, multidimensional storytelling. We chat with SAPPHIRE about all things music below.

OSR: ‘The Last Thing’ opens with an acoustic guitar before building into something bigger. Can you talk us through the creative process behind that progression?

SAPPHIRE: I’ve always loved to create music that builds, and it just felt like the natural progression for the song.

OSR: The lyric “if it’s the last thing that I do” feels both romantic and defiant. How did you land on that phrase as the centrepiece of the song?

SAPPHIRE: It’s quite honestly the first thing that came to me when we were messing around with melodies! It felt like such an impactful line, and it also felt really good to belt out.

OSR: You’ve built a reputation for reimagining familiar expressions in your music. What draws you to that approach?

SAPPHIRE: I don’t know, to be honest, I think I just have a tendency to not overcomplicate anything.

OSR: How do you balance writing songs that are deeply personal while still aiming for a global audience?

SAPPHIRE: I actually never think about it, I’m just naturally an oversharer.

OSR: This single feels both intimate and expansive. What emotions or images were you hoping to capture in its sound?

SAPPHIRE: I’m a really visual person, so for this, I really saw running at full speed down the street in the rain, like in a Pride and Prejudice sort of way.

OSR: You’ve gained fans across continents. Has the international response to your music shaped the way you create or release songs?

SAPPHIRE: No, I don’t think it has. I just always want to create music that people can relate to.

OSR: Many describe your music as authentic and passionate. How do you ensure your artistry remains true to yourself in an industry that often pushes trends?

SAPPHIRE: I never particularly lean into trends, to be honest, so that I think makes staying true to myself quite easy.

OSR: What does ‘The Last Thing’ say about where you are right now as an artist, compared to earlier releases?’

SAPPHIRE: I think this song just feels more true to my vision for my music.

OSR: Looking ahead, how does this single fit into your vision for the next chapter of your music?

SAPPHIRE: This, for me, is a song that was made for the stage, so it feels like the “high energy” song for the shows.
