A Chat with Zarooni (28.04.25)

Zarooni is an international artist whose original songs blend indie vibes, electronic beats, and a hint of country twang. His music, recorded in London and mixed in Dubai, reflects his diverse cultural influences and personal journey. His sound is a rich and dynamic fusion of genres, inviting listeners to experience a sonic journey through his life and the world around him. We caught up with the rising artist to discuss his new single ‘Honey’ and much more below.

OSR: Congratulations on the release of ‘Honey’. Can you tell us what this song means to you personally?

Zarooni: Thanks! Yeah, it means a lot. It’s about this old relationship that, at the time, didn’t seem that deep – but looking back, it definitely left a mark. Sometimes you don’t realise how much something meant until way later.

OSR: What was the inspiration behind ‘Honey’? How did the song come to life?

Zarooni: It’s about a relationship that kinda just faded without any real ending. We just let it happen because it was easier. But honestly, that’s not a great reason to hold onto anything.

OSR: The track touches on themes of reluctant acceptance and life moving too quickly. Can you dive deeper into the message behind the lyrics?

Zarooni: Basically, it’s about how what’s yours today could be gone tomorrow. And when that happens, you go through all these emotions. But at some point, you get a little bit of your power back. The tough part is figuring out what to do with it. It’s not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes you just… wait. Because it’s easier to keep someone around somehow than totally lose them.

OSR: ‘Honey’ has a strong synth-pop vibe. Why did you choose to go in this direction, and how does it fit with the message of the song?

Zarooni: The chorus was always really catchy, so it made sense to make the whole thing a bit more upbeat. It fits the feeling of accepting reality – like, you’re not super happy about it, but you’ve made peace with it, and there’s a bit of confidence in that.

OSR: What was the process of revising and refining ‘Honey’ until it became what it is today?

Zarooni: Man, we recorded it so many times. Couldn’t quite get it right at first. The first demo had this cool energy that we kept chasing. We made it too serious at one point, but then realised it needed more urgency, like how life can flip on you really fast.

OSR: How do you manage the vulnerability that comes with writing and performing deeply personal songs like ‘Honey’?

Zarooni: Honestly, I think once you’re cool with who you are, you kinda appreciate all the messy stuff that got you here. Writing is my way of dealing with it. It helps me say things I might not say out loud otherwise.

OSR: In ‘Honey’, the upbeat energy contrasts with some of the deeper, more reflective lyrical content. Was this intentional, and what do you hope listeners will take away from it?

Zarooni: Yeah, for sure. I wanted it to show that even when things fall apart, there’s still a shot at something better, as long as you’re real with yourself.

OSR: How does ‘Honey’ compare to your previous music in terms of sound and themes?

Zarooni: Pretty similar to my last few songs. I’m getting better at figuring out the vibe of each song and not overthinking it. If it’s catchy, it’s catchy – I’m not gonna fight it anymore. But yeah, lyrically, I’m still telling some pretty dark stories.

OSR: What was the most challenging part of bringing this song to life?

Zarooni: Honestly? Picking the final mix. It took forever.

OSR: Now that ‘Honey’ is out, what’s next for you? Can fans expect any live performances or upcoming releases soon?

Zarooni: Definitely! New music dropping in May and more over the summer. I’ve been playing shows around Dubai and would love to take it international soon. Fingers crossed!
