Acuario Cosmico – Thank You (2025)
With the sounds of The Shadows, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Henry Mancini filling his head since birth – actually, even before, as Gonzalo Marnucci notes that he enjoyed everything in-utero – Marnucci built a passion for music even before taking his first breath. Skip ahead several years, and we find him bringing the power of the underground Buenos Aires scene to the world of Berlin. Combining the talents of Gonzalo Marnucci (lead vocals and guitar), Michael Merkt (bass guitar), and Jonathan Boudevin (drums), the group “finds a way of weaving reality and existential issues into infectious, moving melodies.” The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Thank You’.
Following the 2023 singles ‘Egyptian Romance’ and ’61 Days’, Acuario Cosmico twirls vintage power-pop with contemporary surf-rock transcending sound, space and time in a three-minute melody. Crashing drums pulsate alongside a bold bass with soaring guitars wrapping around the music; however, just as each instrument seemingly lies next to each other with individuality, ‘Thank You’ is harmonic with toe-tapping rhythm.
Leaning toward The Beatles with Creedence Clearwater Revival on its tail, the classic tones are undeniable – something that builds the nostalgic warm fuzziness in your heart. For me, however, it is not the reminiscence of older bands that adds weightiness; it is the retro meets modern take on the timeless theme of love. Frontman Marinucci explains:
“This song is a thankful way to welcome love. The whole album [set for release in June] is a resilient concept of learning in relationships, mutual respect, loving care and emotional responsibility. It has quotes of the lockdown and the cultural differences when you are an expat, but the emphasis is about falling in love…”
Sincere, sentimental, reflective, and wistful in its boldness, ‘Thank You’ is that light at the end of a tunnel, embracing the wonder of love. This is my introduction to Acuario Cosmico, and I cannot wait for more from the highly recommended trio.
