Aggressive Soccer Moms – Tomorrow Was Wonderful (2025)

With no expectations, no reservations and no limitations, Sweden-based Aggressive Soccer Moms saunter through various realms of music plastering their sonic palette with such a plethora of styles and sounds that you have no idea what melodic picture they will paint. With a quick listen to their discography, tinges of vintage 80s sounds linger with post-punk flavours, new-wave styles and a strong punk-driven motif. Yet, today we take a listen to something less obscure and more commercial as Aggressive Soccer Moms tip their hat to retro post-punk in ‘Tomorrow Was Wonderful’.

Following the 2025 albums Early Demos 2018-2020 and Winning Is Banal, Aggressive Soccer Moms continue using a DIY ethic self-writing, recording and producing ‘Tomorrow Was Wonderful’. Joining the talents of founding members Anders Bergstrom and Thomas Wahlström, along with the stylings of Tom Holmlund, the new single continues on the track of a fuller, richer, guitar-driven tone. Unlike punk-bound ‘Crossroads’ and ‘The Organ Grinder, as well as alternative rock ‘Emergency Exit’, ‘Tomorrow Was Wonderful’ tips the scale toward a fusion of vintage synth-pop and post-punk. A shout-out to an edgier rock guitar add a jagged angle to the melody.

Obscurity and eclecticism ooze from the outset. ‘Tomorrow Was Wonderful’ is… well, it’s a hypnotic rush of music sending you on a foggy sonic river; you’re not quite touching the sonic water, but rather floating along in a hazy veil of oddness. The most prominent aspect of ‘Tomorrow Was Wonderful’ is not the instrumentation, arrangement or complex combination of sound – it’s the emotion and enigmatic feel of an immersive song. With vivid imagery, each kaleidoscopic note wafts across the tune sparkling and shimmering, but also fading into the fog.

For me, the gruff vocals dominate ‘Tomorrow Was Wonderful’. Gritty and raw, but with a surrounding sense of gothic haunting, the infectious line, “Tomorrow was wonderful”, crawls into your brain, swims about your head, and leaves you nodding and singing along after the song’s abrupt ending.

Not one to follow a crowd, Aggressive Soccer Moms take the lead with the alternative music, and their murky ambiguity keeps me wondering what else they have to offer.
