Allan Jamisen – Rise Above (2025)

With eager enthusiasm, passionate zeal, and inspiring exuberance, Allan Jamisen can catch our breath and plaster a grin on your face with his moving melodies. With over two decades in the music industry, the veteran US-based artist aims to celebrate life in all his creative pursuits, including his status as a renowned painter. A couple of weeks ago, Jamisen came across our virtual desk with his sophomore single, ‘Living The Dream’. Today, however, we take a step further back to explore the single preceding ‘Living The Dream’ – his debut track, ‘Rise Above’.

Released in early 2025, ‘Rise Above’ is the first song and title track of Jamisen’s upcoming full-length album. Joined by producer John X Volaitis, who collaborates again with Jamisen on ‘Living The Dream’, ‘Rise Above’ is a bold twirl of indie-rock and folk-rock bound with a classic rock flair – like a rock-inspired wrapper capturing the colourful bubble of sound.

As an introduction to Jamisen’s music to the masses, ‘Rise Above’ showcases the singer-songwriter’s way of immersing listeners in a powerful haze of music. Slipping into the bubble of sound, you find yourself lost amidst the pulsating drums and soaring guitars; however, at the same time, the rush of confusion dampens in a laid-back pool of sincerity. Tranquil and comfortable, but not without an edge of heart-racing vulnerability, you teeter on the cusp of joy and obscurity.

For me, it’s a little odd delving further into the debut track while having been introduced to Jamisen with his sophomore track, ‘Living The Dream’. It’s a backwards glance at what already happened while knowing what was to come; is there a change or just persistence of a potentially distinctive style? One aspect that remains intriguing and stands out as an element that is entirely Allan Jamisen and no one else is the gruff vocals. Shifting between spoken word and soulful singing, the rich vocals meander across a pool of grittiness with a gospel-inspired hush lingering beneath.

While the melody has a darker tone to the music, ‘Rise Above’ is anything but dreary. In fact, it brims with optimistic empowerment, celebrating resilience, strength, and rising from the darkness to the light.
