Bold Boy – Reactions (2026)

Have you ever been called too gullible and innocent? Perhaps too trusting and pretty much a walking target for no good ‘uns? Have you ever felt like a reject, nerd or loser? If so, may I introduce you to the musical stylings of Irish duo, Bold Boy. Writing songs to engage, empower and inspire, Mike Paterson and Nathan Merrimen release exciting, passionate material with bombastic yet sensitive sentiments. Already earning their chops in the music scene, Paterson – acclaimed songwriter with credits ranging from self-produced indie-folk to rock band Travis Oaks – and Merrimen – the ex-drummer for punk band Chinese Newspapers – join diverse influences, experiences and attitudes in a powerful blast of music. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Reactions’.

Following their 2025 EP, Any Time Or Any Place, and live version of 2024 single, ‘Sequences’, Bold Boy stomp into 2026 with ‘Reactions’. The zealous punch of old-school punk with shimmering flutters of 90s pop-rock, ‘Reactions’ is a powerful slap in the face and punch to the gut. Yet, while the crashing drums, pounding bass, and scorching guitar erupt in a mosh pit-ready anthem, there is a sweet sincerity and empowering sentimentality brushed across the melody.

For me, ‘Reactions’ twirls you about with head-spinning ferocity; however, as with the sincerity and empowerment, the track lifts your soul and gives you the liberating shout people often need in a rat race society. The melody itself captures you, but it is the singing that has a greater impact. Rugged, raw and gritty, the brash vocals stand out with bold determination in the three-and-a-half-minute tune. A bold reaction to self-perception and almost giving the finger to everyone else judging you without knowing you.

“’Reactions’ is a song about frustration, but more importantly, about breaking free from that frustration. Really asking ourselves what we’re looking for, what we are looking at, and how we want to be perceived. Does true freedom lie in not caring how we are perceived?” – Bold Boy on ‘Reactions’
