Catalus – معا للابد (Together Forever) (2025)
While her fluency in English, Arabic and French contributes to the uniqueness of Catalus’ sound, it is the fusion of diverse cultures that really elevates her melodic approach. We first came across the Moroccan singer-songwriter on Chris Pellnat’s ‘Love is coming الحب قادم,’ which introduced us to her warmth, expressiveness, and tender vocals. This is only one of her collaborations with other artists; today, however, we find ourselves graced with her single, ‘معا للابد (Together Forever)’.
Following the ‘Shemsy’ and ‘Salebni’ – both featuring Chitas – ‘معا للابد (Together Forever)’ is a three-and-a-half-minute saunter through twinkling alternative pop entwined with Middle Eastern sounds. A concoction of electric guitar, bass, and a wisp of a clarinet marches alongside the alluring Arabic percussion. Soft, soothing and harmonic, you find yourself being lost in a sonic stream. For some, this may be a new experience, but the calm, gentle, drawing warmth of Catalus’ vocals guides you through the comfortable bubble of sound.
For me, ‘معا للابد’ fits perfectly as one of the songs from Arabian Nights. Catalus, as Scheherazade, captures you with her hypnotic vocals and intoxicating music. With ‘معا للابد’, you find yourself sitting around a fire with veils swirling about in a shimmer of dance and sound. Interestingly, just as the melody – produced with Chris Pellnat – wanders into your ears and clutches your heart, the lyrical aspect is as weighty and intriguing.
I have no idea what Catalus is saying as the lyrics are Arabic; however, this is a song where you don’t need to understand the words to fully appreciate their message. A love song, ‘معا للابد (Together Forever)’ is an intimate conversation between two lovers looking at romantic commitment. The singer and protagonist “…asks her lover to “kiss me once, if you love me”, and then “kiss me twice to be sure” – and the equation ends with a lasting, committed relationship of love.”
Sincere, sentimental, honest and heart-warming, Catalus’ new single brims with emotion and carries you along for the ride.
