Cell Games – Lament Configuration (2025)

Originally formed in 2020 as a recording project by vocalist Maximillion Foy and guitarist Tristan Carroll, Cell Games have been stamping their name on the Irish metal scene for the past few years. Add bassist Deb O’Brien and drummer Niall O’Carroll, and the band bring a forceful punch of sound as one of Ireland’s most exciting nu-metal groups. With energetic, electric performances, Cell Games easily hold live audiences in the palm of their hands; however, you don’t need to be at a gig to be enchanted by Cell Games. Head to Spotify or Bandcamp, put on your headphones, then hit play and prepare to fall into a sonic bubble. Join us as we hit play on the group’s most recent single, ‘Lament Configuration’.

Following the well-received single ‘Let’s Go To Therapy’, ‘Lament Configuration’ shifts to a heavier, hard-hitting, double over from the punch in the gut metal-inspired tone. Recorded and produced by long-time collaborator Josh Robinson at JSR Audio, ‘Lament Configuration’ drags you back to the early 2000s nu-metal scene. A face-slapping thrashing of bold bass, crashing drums, and scorching guitar bounce you about with reckless abandon in this sonic hurricane. Kaleidoscopic and vibrant, you find yourself lost in the whipping winds and slashing rain of the twister, but while the track is frenzied and urgent, there is an engaging thread flowing in Foy’s shouts, so you know you’re not alone in the brash, jagged experience.

Melodically, ‘Lament Configuration’ knocks you off your feet in one swoop of metal music. Yet, it is the lyricism and theme that add profound weightiness to the track. Frontman Maximillion Foy explains:

“The song is my thoughts on the rise of the far right movement and people’s sense of empathy gradually eroding away. Written pre-Covid, it was supposed to be a cautionary tale that became, unfortunately, quite prophetic. It’s about the feeling that things are about to change for the worse. It’s like we’ve solved the Lament Configuration and the chains have dragged us to hell.”

In addition to the single, Cell Games released an official music video for ‘Lament Configuration’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
