Chloe Tsangaris – Elephant In The Room (2025)

Take a dab of Fleetwood Mac, a tinge of Lizzy McAlpine and a smidgeon of Taylor Swift, and what do you have? Well, Chloe Tsangaris, of course. Hailing from the Sunshine Coast, the Australian singer-songwriter tackles the complexities of life in all its grit and glory. Raw, emotive, and intimate, her songs are those of diary entry stories capturing the themes of love, loss, relationships and personal growth for all ages. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Elephant In The Room’.

Following her well-received single, ‘Who You Are’, Tsangaris collaborates with long-time producer, Angus Woodhead, to express a pivotal shift in her musical journey. Unlike ‘Who You Are’ that breathed life into an indie-pop meets folk-pop melody, ‘Elephant In The Room’ brings life to the heavier side of Tsangaris’ rock personality. Raised on a 90s alternative rock sound, the single nods its head to the likes of Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls. Sort of like a drag back to yesteryear while keeping a contemporary pop-rock light flickering in the background.

Originally intended as a piano ballad, ‘Elephant In The Room’ embraces Tsangaris’ distinctive piano-driven style but entwines a powerful guitar into its melodic tapestry. Joined by award-winning guitarist Brendan Radford, the song quickly evolved into a pop-rock punch in the face, hitting you between the eyes in the best way possible. Moreover, Tsangaris uses a Leslie organ on the track, enhancing its gritty but harmonic texture.

Melodically, ‘Elephant In The Room’ showcases Tsangaris’ growth and maturity as an artist, yet the lyricism holds as much weight. An empowering single, it explores the next step to a brighter, more insightful future. Tsangaris explains:

“This song has been living with me for four years. It marks the beginning of the end of what I thought the rest of my life would look like and I am forever grateful that now I am able to share it while walking the path I was meant to be on.”

Taken from her upcoming album, ‘Elephant In The Room’ is merely a taste of Tsangaris’ new sound. I am eager to hear the new album, but until then I can contentedly put her singles on repeat.
