Connie Moreau – So Shy (2025)
Should Lizzy McAlpine adopt a child with Olivia Rodrigo and The Corrs were her best friends, the chances are Connie Moreau would be that child. Hailing from Lyon, France, Moreau brings us heartfelt poetic lyricism entwined with tender folk-pop melodies tinged by a haunting folk-driven sound in her moving vocals. With only two singles to her name, there is hardly a large back catalogue from which to work; however, the sophistication and heartfelt warmth of her music make Moreau appear an old friend rather than a stranger. Following her debut single, ‘That Wooden House’, Moreau continues her journey upon a path littered with glittering shimmers of modern-day folk-pop. As much as ‘So Shy’ speaks to contemporary audiences, a hint of soft 90s pop seems to peep from the background. Soft, soothing and gentle, ‘So Shy’ is a calming breeze on a hot summer’s day. It’s the languid breath of air pushing along the fluffy clouds in a bright blue sky. It’s chilled-out, tranquil, and oh so smooth with mellifluous arrangements and Moreau’s harmonic vocals.
Binding dynamic guitars, a slip of piano, and pulsating drums, ‘So Shy’ keeps your toe tapping as you smile along to the tune. The thing is, while the production oozes with kaleidoscopic warmth, its theme is a little more poignant and haunting. A sophisticated production by Larone Production, you find charm in the well-knit song, but Moreau’s delicate vocals bring vulnerability and fragility to the track. In an elegant but innocently naïve way, ‘So Shy’ unpicks the intricacies of shyness, modesty, and rejection. Moreau explains:
“’So Shy’ is a bittersweet folk-pop song about a missed connection, where shyness holds you back until it’s too late. The song captures that fragile moment when the person you’ve kept alive in your thoughts starts to fade as soon as you try to bring them into reality… This song is for anyone who’s ever wished they had spoken up before the chance slipped away.”
