DAMNAGE – Wild In The Streets (2025)
DAMNAGE’s cover of ‘Wild In The Streets’ doesn’t play it safe. It grabs punk by the collar, stares it in the face, and dares it to keep up. Teaming up with Greg Hetson of Circle Jerks fame, the trio take this classic anthem and injects it with fresh venom. It’s not a reinvention, it’s a resurrection; snarling, sweaty, and straight from the gut.
Right from the first riff, you know this isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. The band, made up of Tim Stewart, Jonny Drummond, and Tosh Peterson, plays with the kind of fury that only comes from living music, not just playing it. You can hear the road miles in Stewart’s scratchy vocals and feel the controlled chaos in Peterson’s machine-gun drumming. Hetson adds his signature punk edge that made the Circle Jerks legendary.
It would’ve been easy to phone this in. Slap a punk icon on a track and let history carry it. But DAMNAGE are clearly allergic to laziness. They’ve made this version feel urgent. They’re not playing punk. They’re fighting with it, sweating with it, screaming alongside it. This track was recorded live in just a few hours at Hetson’s studio. No endless takes. No post-production magic. Just three guys and a punk icon letting it rip. And that decision pays off; the recording sounds like it could’ve been ripped straight from a dive bar PA system, in the best possible way.
The band’s backstory makes this hit even harder. Formed on the road while touring with pop royalty, DAMNAGE is the result of years spent channelling the kind of raw emotion that never fit neatly into radio singles. This song and this collaboration feel like a long time coming, like something they’ve needed to get off their chests.
If punk is supposed to make you feel something, rage, resistance, solidarity, even joy, this track does all of that and more. DAMNAGE didn’t just bring ‘Wild In The Streets’ back to life. They gave it a new pulse. One that hits harder than ever. Some covers feel like tributes. Others feel like takeovers. DAMNAGE’s ‘Wild In The Streets’ is both a riotous, razor-edged homage to punk history that also demands to be heard on its own terms.
