Dan Gober – Stoned Supreme (2025)
From his early rock days to cinematic spaciness of delayed guitars to experimental percussion with hammers and metal pipes, singer-songwriter Dan Gober is as eclectic, eccentric and innovative as they come. Beginning his musical journey as a teen studying music theory and fundamentals, Gober knew where his fate lay, and he’s been running with head-turning performances as a solo artist and with a full band. Over the years, Gober’s catalogue has grown with original music, composing for films, and offering “rock, ambient and background music for any project…” Today, we take a gander and a listen to his most recent release, ‘Stoned Supreme’.
Following his 2020 album, Ghosts and Apologies, ‘Stoned Supreme’ is the US-based Gober’s first release in five years – or at least that’s what I’m getting from Spotify. With a sheen of vintage grunge sounds ala Nirvana and The Pixies, the single is a hard-hitting rush of rock-laden music. Produced at his home studio, the new track quickly picks you up, twirls you about, and has you riding a kaleidoscopic sonic waterfall.
The combination of Gober’s soaring guitar, a bold bass and pounding drums is entwined in the grittier weave of grunge; however, each instrument brings an individual thump to the overall single. It’s like the drums, guitar and bass slide alongside each other but retain the melding of a harmonic arrangement. Add Gober’s gritty vocals, and you have a tune set for fist-pumping festivals and an intimate twirling about in your bedroom.
The melody is intriguing and fun, but it is the theme that adds some weightiness to ‘Stoned Supreme’. Gober explains:
“’Stoned Supreme’ comes from the idea of being in your own head. You take up an idea and follow it further down the worm hole. In the end, the concept arrives at this beautiful light of clarity… It’s a fun, upbeat tune that is all killer and no filler.”
In addition to the single, Dan Gober released an official music video for ‘Stoned Supreme’. You can view the video below and/or on Gober’s YouTube channel.
