Dreyden Gordon – Stop The World (2025)
Described as a “young entertainer with an old soul”, singer-songwriter Dreyden Gordon brings the wisdom, sophistication and maturity of yesteryear country in a youthful, bright-eyed, big smiles package. Hailing from eastern Kentucky – that’s in the USA, to be exact – Gordon has turned heads with his earthy bluegrass melodies. While this is my introduction to the lad, Gordon has been releasing music for over five years, according to streaming sites. Not only are we late to the party with his music, but he has turned heads internationally featuring in films From The Cowboy’s Boot Hell and Stage and Waves, performing at notable venues including the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, receiving awards such as Mississippi Music Foundations “Bluegrass Artist of the Year” in 2023, and was nominated for ten different awards from the Red Carpet Awards In Europe.
As I mentioned, this is our introduction to Dreyden Gordan, and we jump into his discography with the track, ‘Stop The World’. Taken from his 2025 album, Stop The World, the song is a bold burst of pure honky-tonk, bustling with kaleidoscopic, toe-tapping charm and exuberance. Released on Nashville Entertainment Weekly Records, ‘Stop The World’ is a shimmering concoction of banjo, fiddle and percussion, all entwined in harmonic union. The bold banjo takes the fore with skill that would make Jake Shimabukuro smile. A fiddle dances along with the toe-tapping twang, inserting a haunting, vulnerable tinge to the track.
For me, the melody is intriguing as a solid stamp of bluegrass, but the vocals are the element that adds a degree of “human-ness” to ‘Stop The World’. Full-bodied and rich, Gordon’s voice has a powerful command to it; however, just as there is a strength and confidence, a bittersweet element exists as he sings about stopping the world to let him off.
Not sincere or sentimental per se, but a song that dictates and unpicks the need to make a change and “get off”, ‘Stop The World’ is moving, intriguing and a good introduction to a talented musician.
