Dying Habit – Three Letter View (2025)

With a potent burst of alternative rock dragging us back to the 1990s scene, Welsh foursome Dying Habit are rambunctious, rowdy, and a wistful glance into the heaviness of the past. Drawing together the musical stylings of Nathan Jones (vocals), Alan Hart (guitar), Daniel Garner (bass), and Mark Jones (drums), the group is a mish-mash of influences and individuality, but also a harmonic union of styles and sounds. We came across Dying Habit in 2022 with the critically acclaimed ‘Directions’, and then they crossed our virtual desk again with 2024’s ‘Celestial’. Following the well-received album The Chaos of Silence, Dying Habit weave their weighty words with the new single, ‘Three Letter View’.

Produced with Russ Hayes, ‘Three Letter View’ is a rush of hard-hitting alternative rock music. With its brush of bold bass and crashing drums, you are immediately shoved into a sonic forest. On one side, the path is clear and open; to get there, you need to shuffle through dark fog and gnarled roots. The rhythm section lifts you with its kaleidoscopic colours within a dewy darkness, and the dynamic guitar riffs act like fairy lights skipping along. Interestingly, while the music is tremulous, there are lighter intonations, so those imps peeping from behind the roots aren’t as creepy as you imagine.

The melody itself is intriguing, wrapping you in a smooth blanket before dipping past those thorny bushes; however, it is the lyrical element that brings greater perception, profoundness, and weightiness to the intricate ‘Three Letter View’. Executed with Jones’ warm and rich vocals, the words are charming but also have a bite to their theme. Dying Habit explains:

“Lyrically, the song explores the relationship between the human body and psyche, how vibrational frequencies take us to many different timeless and dimensions, and how this also applies to our emotions. How and why do we feel the way we do?”

In addition to the single, Dying Habit released an official music video for ‘Three Letter View’. The video can be viewed below and/or on their YouTube channel.
