Electric Rime – Spark (2026)

While recent news from Ukraine may be difficult to muster – tragic, despairing, and upsetting – Electric Rime is something good to come from Kyiv. Amidst destruction, a hopeful light shines bright in the band’s melodies. True, their music has a distinctive melancholy, but the powerful guitars and emotive vocals convey strength, resilience, and a toe-tapping sense of solace. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Spark’.

Following their 2025 singles ‘Is There Still Light?’, ‘Landslide’ and ‘Hole In The Middle’, Alina Fedorova (vocals), Roman Sapielkin (guitar), Maksym Prosha (bass guitar), and Sergiy Zhemeytsev (drums) shift to a noticeably lighter sound in ‘Spark’. While the older material leans toward harder alternative rock styles, this single is a solid indie-rock tune that inspires with its refreshing charm rather than the heavier rush of raw, gritty emotion. The lyricism and theme elegantly capture the heart of this song as, in Electric Rime’s words, ‘Spark’ “…tells a story of love, devotion and sacrifice.”

Recorded and produced by Kostya Puha at Primat Production, ‘Spark’, and this is a bit cheesy, sparks with kaleidoscopic emotion in its melody. Sprinkling his production glitter across the arrangement, Puha offers us a concoction of soaring guitars, a steady, anchoring bass, crashing drums, and sweet vocals – all interestingly independent with individuality while coming together in a united, harmonic whole.

For me, it is the vocals that seem to lead the way in ‘Spark’. I do not mean they are the most distinctive; instead, Fedorova guides you with a friendly hand across the soft, gentle sonic forest, walking toward empowerment and blooming hope. Lyrics like “I can choose my own way/ I can cross the deep seas/ just to draw nearer/ to your light” enhance the warmth and intimacy of that friendly hand. While “We’re on our way/ running from the past/ And I know we’ve changed/ We have changed at last…” cements their nature as a band that unpicks human experiences, finding the bright inside the dark.
