Eyal Erlich – Live From Levontin (2025)
Eyal Erlich is an interesting artist blending classical guitar with a voice that offers a distinct, raw indie feel. With his brand-new EP, Live From Levontin, he not only showcases his talent as a songwriter and musician but also the natural talent he possesses as a live performer.
Kicking off with ‘All In All’, a track with an undeniable 70s vibe. The opening riffs display some note-perfect noodling, which builds a rich, chilled-out vibe that only deepens with the vocal introduction. Erlich’s soulful voice helps you get lost in the tale being woven by an amazing storyteller.
Then comes ‘Jenny’, a song which, for me, is a perfectly crafted indie-pop song with an air of acts such as Radiohead and The Smiths. Melancholy yet powerful vocals keep the listener engaged and allow each element of the song to have its time to shine and combine to produce something that is worth throwing on repeat just so you can enjoy it over and over. A personal highlight for me was the guitar work on ‘Jenny’. The lead guitar punctuated the story perfectly and simply enriched the track.
The track that followed, ‘Already In’, is my favourite of this short four-track EP. I especially liked the folk elements and the way the guitar shredded in the background, and as the vocals subsided, it was allowed to just take on a life of its own. I felt it was just a perfect track, had everything both musically and lyrically, full of soul and warmth. I found myself singing along with the chorus almost instantly as Erlich called out “already in”. Sitting at five minutes long, it did not once lose momentum and kept me engaged throughout and will definitely be on my playlist.
Finally comes ‘I Wish I Knew’, the closing track on a short yet outstanding record. With an ethereal backing track, Erlich offers further examples of what a skilful bard he is and how well he can convey ideas musically. As soon as ‘I Wish I Knew’ ended, I simply looped back to ‘All In All’ to listen all over again, because when four tracks are this good, what else is there to do?
The accompanying videos with the release of Live From Levontin show a cool and collected side to this great musician. With a look like nothing will phase him, Eyal Erlich shows himself the consummate professional he is, whilst still obviously having fun and loving what he does. With the promise that the coming year is going to be the most exciting of Erlich’s career, including a flurry of singles and a debut record, this is definitely the right time to have discovered him.
