Frank Joshua – Turn To Your Soul (Reimagined) (2025)

Typically serenading us with brands of indie-folk and pop, singer-songwriter Frank Joshua tends to offer certain sounds that have become a signature. From ‘Melanie Klein’s indie-pop to the blues-infiltrated indie-rock ‘Fertile Mind’, Joshua flits from genres with his brightly coloured sonic palette. Today, however, we see, or rather hear, a leaning toward retro soul and jazz.

Following the well-received single ‘Days Like These’, the UK-based musician joins forces with producer Charles Connolly, giving a nostalgic nod to the days of yesteryear. Not only is the single a swoop of old-school soul, but it holds personal interest as the pair touch on Joshua’s past work as frontman for the band, Pits. Drawing inspiration from Pits’ electric performances and live show hype, ‘Turn To Your Soul (Reimagined)’ transcends eras and generations, bringing the feast of old-school to contemporary audiences. Frank explains:

“’Turn To Your Soul (Reimagined)’ is a time machine disguised as a song… Recorded in the heart of London, ‘Turn To Your Soul (Reimagined)’ captures the essence of a bygone era while infusing it with a fresh, modern twist… a testament to the timeless appeal of soulful music that speaks to the core of human experience…”

Soft and heartfelt, the ‘Turn To Your Soul (Reimagined)’ contains the sheen of a soul ballad. With a pulsating piano in the background, you have that anchor to turn to in this sonic time machine; however, slices of horns and guitar dance atop the piano like a person stepping forward to add them with specific individuality. For me, it is the vocals that kick the track with soulful sincerity. Rich and gritty, Joshua’s voice drives the track with a jazzy vibe; it’s as if he is speaking directly to you with lilts of Motown elegance lingering in the powerful vocals.
