Glass Mansions – Violet (2025)
Skating across differing hues of rock and pop, US-based Glass Mansions daub their sonic palette with elements of pop-punk, alternative rock, dark-pop, and pop-rock, creating a kaleidoscopic blur of sound. From the powerful studio singles to roaring stage presence, vocalist Jayna Doyle and multi-instrumentalist Blake Arambula shove audiences back to the pop-rock sounds of the 90s, while keeping you conscious in the present moment with contemporary edginess. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Violet’.
Following the well-received 2023 single ‘Nearsighted’, ‘Violet’ is a pivotal point in Glass Mansions’ musical journey – an evolution and new direction in their signature sound. Heavier, harder, and more rock-inspired, while keeping the sprightlier tone of pop-punk, ‘Violet’ is that punch of bad-ass, in-your-face rock hitting you right between the eyes.
The combination of crashing drums and scorching guitars kicks with a hard-hitting push, but the lashing of synth-driven inserts a kaleidoscopic swoosh while binding everything in a wall of sound. ‘Violet’ can be defined as chaotic, furious, and brimming with angsty rage; however, the sophisticated sprinkles of Taylor J Webb’s production glitter keep everything in check. It’s like organised chaos with this torrential, tumultuous tune kept in a sonic bubble.
Melodically, Glass Mansions up the ante on their previous work with ‘Violet’ – a stronger, weightier, more intense side to their character. Yet, the lyricism and theme are what add poignant profundity to the track. Doyle explains:
“The initial inspo for this song was an early season of Black Mirror, which led me to think about how we are so transfixed in making our personal lives out to be brands ready to be sold on social media. Every post, story, reel is so carefully curated, and we’re all guilty of it and the doomscrolling lifestyle that follows… ‘Violet’ is the static void, the abysmal collection of everything we post, throw, scream into the unknown… ‘Violet’ is a lyrically tongue-in-cheek, dark alt-pop track about going mad from the fake joy of a digital brainwash.”
In addition to the single, Glass Mansions released an official music video for ‘Violet’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
